TUNGSTEN INTERMEDIATES

Buffalo Tungsten's affiliate company Wolfram Bergbau und Hütten (Wolfram) produces tungsten intermediates such as ammonium paratungstate (APT) and tungsten oxides (WO3) at their factory in St. Martin, Austria. These materials are produced from tungsten ores and concentrates or recycled tungsten hard scrap. Buffalo Tungsten regularly purchases these raw materials for conversion. The intermediate tungsten chemicals are used in a variety of other applications such as tungstates, catalysts, and pigments.

Typical order quantities are full container loads of tungsten concentrates. We purchase tungsten carbide scrap in varying quantities from both domestic and foreign sources. It is Buffalo Tungsten's policy to only purchase raw materials from conflict free sources. We also purchase tungsten concentrate material from the United States Defense Logistics Agency strategic reserve stockpile through competitive bid as it is made available.

To supplement internal production Buffalo Tungsten purchases blue tungsten oxide and yellow tungsten oxide from non-Chinese global suppliers. The tungsten oxide materials are primarily reduced to pure tungsten powder in Buffalo Tungsten's furnaces under a hydrogen atmosphere. Our finished tungsten powder materials typically have a purity greater than 99.99%.
